Preikestolen

Spent the morning meandering around the south coast until we got just south of Stavanger where we got a ferry across the fjord and headed to the north side of Lysefjord.

This is where we climbed to Preikestolen known as Pulpit Rock.  It is around 2 hours walk each way.  I know 120,000 people climb this route each year but I didn't expect them all to choose the same day as us!!  Well it seemed that way - we started up at 3.30 when most of the people were coming down.  It climbs 350 meters but the surface is all uneven rocks and rock stairs with a few boardwalks and bare rocks to scramble over.  It was also very hot.  However we made it as you see from the photos and the views were stunning.  It was a good thing we went in the afternoon and didn't wait for the next day (as we had originally planned) as it poured with rain on the Sunday.

The camp near to Preikesolen was expensive (280kr) so we drove looking for a freedom camping spot but found a cheap little camp (150 kr) where we were glad to rest our legs.  The uneven rocky surface was hard going for 4 hrs.
