August 1

Yesterday we got up early and drove out of France, through Belgium, a good part of the Netherlands, Germany and half way up Denmark to a camping ground near Arhus.  It was cloudy at first, then really hot and sunny.  Everywhere was very flat, but Denmark less than the other countries.  Lots of wind turbines and bicycles.  Malcolm was driving for 12 or 14 hours on motorways so we were glad to get here - camping ground outside Arhus.

After a sunny start today it got drizzly.  First we looked around Arhus, especially the Cathedral, which was built from brick.  It was whitewashed inside but the medieval frescoes had been restored. Then we went into a small Viking museum.  The building at street level was a bank or office but was on the site of some Viking houses.  The museum was underground and the house sites were marked in red on the floor.  When we came out it had started to spit with rain.

So then we went to another town, Silkeborg, and saw the Tollund Man, who has been preserved in the bog for 2,200 years.  I have always wanted to see these 'bog people'
