Dungeness - an area of shacks, boats, a light house...

...and this miniature train

A drizzly day.  In Ann and Barry's old stamping ground!  First we went to Canterbury.  It was a nice town with interesting old buildings.  We didn't go in the Cathedral and precinct because it was so expensive but had a look around the streets.

Then we went to the old coastal port of Sandwich where we had a sandwich - well Faith and Quentin did, we had cakes.  Next on the agenda was Deal castle built by Henry VIII.

If the weather had been better we would have gone for a walk on the famous white cliffs but as it was still drizzly we found a place called St Margarets at Cliff where we looked at the cliffs from sea level and had a good pub lunch.

In the afternoon we continued along the coast to Dungeness, which was a sort of desolate quirky spot.  Finally we drove inland to Battle which is north of Hastings and the place where the famous battle of Hastings took place in 1066.  We stayed at a 300 year old coaching inn and went to another pub for dinner.  At least we are eating well!
