Through the Swiss Alps

We have certainly got good weather just now - it was 29 degrees today.  We drove through a long valley in the Swiss Alps going over 2 passes.  We had morning coffee just below the first pass, what a view!  In fact we had amazing views the whole day.  Malcolm took 100's of photos.  At the second pass we had lunch, then we drove up to a lake that we'd seen from the pass.

After that we went further along the valley until we got to the turn off for Zermatt, which we took as we wanted to go and see the Matterhorn.  we drove steadily uphill until finally we got to a place called Tasch, which was as far as you can drive.  To get to Zermatt you have to go by train (or taxi).  So we camped there for the night.  Our neighbours were 2 Aussies in a camper van and they had done the same as us, not knowing you couldn't drive on.  So we found out that you can get the train for 8 Swiss Franks and the pass to go up the mountains in 80.

It was a cold night as we were high up (but not as cold as Norway)...

  1. hehehe if you're in a rentaracer with Italian plates. . . you just keep driving. Though someone did tell us we weren't supposed to be there so we drove down again. We had noticed absence of traffique... Dave
